Childcare allowance and subsidy

Interested in childcare for your child(ren)? Then you must be curious about the costs. Many families are entitled to childcare benefits or municipal subsidies. On this page, we will explain what you are entitled to.

How does it work?

Childcare allowance

You are entitled to childcare allowance when a single parent or both parents/carers:

  • work
  • follow a route to work
  • are following an education or integration course

The amount of the benefit depends on your income. With our handy calculation tool, you can calculate exactly what you will pay per month for childcare. You can only use this tool if you are entitled to childcare allowance.

How do I apply for childcare allowance?

You can apply for childcare allowance via www.toeslagen.nl, where you will also find more information on childcare allowance. The Belastingdienst also has a telephone number for questions: 0800 - 0543.

How does it work within preschool?

Municipal subsidy

Parent(s)/carer(s) who are not entitled to childcare allowance and take up toddler care are always entitled to subsidy from the municipality. That is if:

one of the parents works (and the other does not work)
both parents do not work
In both cases, for 2 mornings* toddler care, part of the costs are covered by a subsidy from the municipality, the other part of the costs you pay yourself (parental contribution). The table below shows, depending on your income, how much you have to pay per month for 2 mornings of toddler care.

*On the indication of the GGD childcare centre, this can be extended to 4 mornings. This also applies to parents entitled to childcare allowance.

How do I apply for a subsidy?

When registering your toddler at one of our locations, please indicate that you are entitled to a subsidy. We arrange the subsidy with the municipality, you only pay the remaining amount on the invoice, as listed in the table above.

VVE indication from the GGD

Early childhood education (VVE) is for toddlers aged 2.5 to 4. The GGD childcare centre gives children who have (a risk of) educational disadvantage a VVE indication. This gives your child extra guidance in the development of language, arithmetic, motor skills or social-emotional development.

With this VVE indication, you get 2 free mornings of toddler care in addition to the 2 mornings of toddler care you pay for yourself (possibly in combination with a subsidy or childcare allowance). This means an expansion from 2 to 4 mornings. The VVE toddler programme is offered for a minimum of 16 hours a week. The 2 extra toddler mornings are paid for by the municipality of Valkenswaard, Cranendonck or Waalre.
